Shark Lab

Lab Update: 4 October

This week Paul and the UROC team continued sorting specimens from the Southern Indian Ocean project for further analysis and measurements. These deep-sea sharks are incredibly rare and valuable to science, so it’s important that they are well-cared for and stored properly. Little is known about them let alone their fecundity or anything about their pups, but data from these rare specimens will help fill in gaps about fecundity, reproduction, and pup size. These are all very important life history characteristics that can help guide stainable management of our oceans and help protect rare shark species.
