As Paul and the team continued pulling SIO specimens from storage to photo document them this week, we took a deeper look at a few his most precious sharks: the chimaeras! These deep-sea sharks are incredibly rare and valuable to science, so it’s important that they are well-cared for and stored properly. Little is known about them let alone their fecundity or anything about their … Continue reading →

Edward is a PSRC intern and SJSU undergraduate studying marine biology at MLML Today Paul was out (and will be until mid-August), but we kept busy prepping vials for several PSRC projects, including MLML grad student Melissa’s thesis work. The entire day we spent organizing colored vials by numbering them 0-100 and filling them with … Continue reading →

Lindsey is a CSUMB undergraduate interning at MLML with PSRC. This week at Shark Army Justin Cordova, intern, showed us how to take denticle samples from sharks. This includes ten areas through previous studies that have shown to have differences on the same individual. Paul then reviewed with us how to take correct photos of … Continue reading →

This video shows a little skate embryo roughly 12 weeks into development. Understanding how temperature impacts the development of elasmobranchs is critical in our understanding of how climate change will affect this group of organisms as a whole 👍🏼🦈 . . . . #science #elasmobranch #shark #sharks #flatshark #marinebiology #heartbeat #research #saveourseas #saveoursharks #littleskate #thisisune #unemarinescience #sharkscience #sharkresearch #marineconservation #fish #gofish #sharkies
Marine biologist Heather Marshall fins her way through a fitness regime like no other. Get it Team Ship Shape. Show us how the sharks do it. . . . . @repost "Exercise in the morning, before your brain figures out what your doing" 🦋 • Pro-tip 👍😂 I recently saw this quote, and took it to heart! Today was my last Leg Day of #80DO and I went HEAVY.....my arms are just as tired as my legs after holding these heavy weights ha ha…🔥 • This is our last week of the program!!! I also head to sea for some field work this week, so, I skipped my rest day today, shifted around my workout schedule, to make sure that I can still wrap up #80dayobsession on time 😎 • It feels amazing to be finishing this program, and also very bittersweet! 😢I have been connected to an amazing community of fellow coaches with whom I have been working alongside (albeit virtually) for the past 70+ days....Today, for the last 10 reps, I counted outloud, in an empty gym....but along with the trainer #autumncalabrese as we wrapped Leg Day ☺️ • This community has inspired me, and also taught me how to push hard and expand my boundaries with regards to fitness, which has been invaluable, and I am so thankful… This is the real deal....no wraps, no pills....just you, your body, and your weights... Backed by thousands of other amazing people who are pushing you to do your best 🙌 • Want to start your day off with an endorphin high? Let me know and I will get you set up in our next group! 🖤 #feelingtheburn🔥 #feelingthegrateful #shipshape #glassesgirls #morningboost
